Mirsaanga Ros - Chilly Curry

This is one of my Grandma's recipes. It is a rare recipe that is slowly being lost. Another attempt to save this simple yet delicious Goan vegetarian curry.

Ingredients
green chilies
7  
fresh grated coconut
3/4   cup
turmeric
1   teaspoon
sugar
1.5   teaspoon
salt
1   teaspoon
oil
1   teaspoon
mustard seeds
1/2   teaspoon
asafetida
1   pinch
curry leaves
8  
water
2.5   cup
inch tamarind

Instructions

1. On a pan add few drops of oil and roast 4 chillies till charred. In a mixer add the charred chillies, grated coconut and turmeric and make a fine paste with 1 cup water.

2. Heat oil in a pot. Once hot, add asafetida, curry leaves and remaining 3 chilies chopped. Saute for a minute or so. Add in the paste to this mixture.

3. Add remaining amount of water, tamarind, salt and sugar. Mix well and let the mixture come to a boil. Serve hot with rice.
