A Karnataka Rasam Recipe using the stuffing of purnam(puran)
1. Heat oil in a saucepan and add chana dal and urad dal and saute till they turn brown lightly.Add mustard and cumin seeds and let splutter.Add the turmeric, and curry leaves and let splutter.
2. Add 2 cups of water and the purnam, tamarind paste,salt , mix well and let the liquid come to a boil
3. Add rasam powder,asafetida and chili powder and boil for 6 minutes.If you like add more chili powder for more spice,more water to reduce sweetness,more tamarind to increase tangy flavor.
